When Kordell Stewart filed for divorce from The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Porsha Stewart on March 22, the former NFL star wrote that he should not provide alimony support to her because she's an "able-bodied person earning income and is capable of supporting herself."

Porsha's lawyer, Randy Kessler, has given an update on their divorce proceedings. Kessler told TMZ that "the two sides are trying to keep the split amicable and are working on reaching a separation agreement as quickly as possible."

Porsha, who did not sign a pre-nuptial agreement, disagreed in her counterclaim regarding accusations that she can support herself. The reality star said her "earning capacity was set back significantly" when she stopped working for two years to help care for Kordell's son, Syre. The couple did not have any children together. Kordell's son Syre is from a previous relationship.

Porsha wrote on her Bravo blog during RHOA season 5 that she did not sign a pre-nup because "there is no place for a piece of paper to stand between us."

"We have the same beliefs when it comes to God and how we have our purpose shown to us by God," she wrote. "So through bonding with him in mind, body, and spirit there is no place for a piece of paper to stand between us."

Kordell filed a petition for divorce from Porsha on March 22 in Fulton County, Ga. The couple had been married less than two years; they wed on May 21, 2011.
