Rooney Mara has been chosen as the face of Calvin Klein's new fragrance, called Downtown.

The announcement was made at the Cannes film festival Thursday night at the Calvin Klein and the Independent Filmmaker Project's women in film event.

The 28-year-old actress, famous for her Oscar-nominated role as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, will appear in TV spots for the fragrance this July.  David Fincher, who worked with her in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network, will direct the spots.

Calvin Klein described the TV ad campaign:

"[It is the] story of a young woman living in her own world, breaking away from the 'expected.' Set in New York City, the short film portrays the multi-faceted life of a globally recognizable actress who always remains true to herself."

Klein hopes that the fragrance will rake in $120 million in sales when it debuts in stores this summer.

In an interview with WWD magazine, Mara seemed happy with the new partnership, stating:

"It's an honour to be part of a brand with such a legacy of breakthrough advertising. The Downtown fragrance holds true to the chic, confident and simple feeling of the Calvin brand. The effortless and timeless appeal of the Calvin Klein Collection and the Downtown scent made this a natural partnership."

The Telegraph reports that the fragrance has "top notes of Italian cedrat, bergamot, Tunisian neroli, green pear and watery plum; a heart of pink peppercorn, violet leaf and gardenia petals, and a drydown of Texan cedarwood, incense, vetiver and velvet musks."

Mara recently starred in the Steven Soderbergh thriller Side Effects and will be reprising her role as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl Who Played With Fire, though the release date is unknown.  She rose to prominence with her role as Erica Albright, Mark Zuckerberg's girlfriend in The Social Network.
