Monkees singer and '60s heartthrob Davy Jones died this morning after suffering a heart attack. He was 66.
The Martin County medical examiner's office in Florida confirmed Jones' death after receiving a call from a local hospital. The news was first reported by TMZ.
Jones, born in England, was lead singer of The Monkees, a pop band initially formed for a TV show of the same name, inspired in part by The Beatles. The group's hits include "I'm a Believer," "Daydream Believer" and "Last Train to Clarksville."
Many fans of The Brady Brunch may remember one of the show's most popular episodes, airing in 1971, in which Marcia Brady, president of her junior high school's Davy Jones fan club, convinces Jones to sing at the prom.
Jones is survived by his wife Jessica and four daughters from previous marriages.
