Valentin Chermkovskiy and Zendaya Coleman competed in the Dancing with the Stars part one season finale on Monday only hours after the professional dancer suffered a serious eye injury during dress rehearsal.

They performed three routines on Monday night but the dancer immediately went to the hospital after he and the actress finished their interviews at the end of the show. Chermkovskiy revealed that producers were considering replacing him with another professional dancer just one hour before the start of the finale.

"Everybody panicked," Chermkovskiy said. "There were talks about replacing me, and that was not going to happen. I was just praying it was going to stop bleeding, which, thank God, it did because it's a very deep cut."

Coleman rehashed the scary moment during the rehearsal when her elbow hit Chermkovskiy's eye.

"I already knew it was bad, and then he was going through dress rehearsal with blood all over his face," she said. "I just had to keep going...He kept smiling, so that's the cue to keep on going."

The 14-time U.S. champion in dance and 16-year-old Coleman, who plays Rocky Blue on Disney's Shake It Up! were paired up to compete this season. Despite the corner of his eye gushing bump and appearing swollen during the live show Monday, Chermkovskiy said he believed the injury helped his performance.

He is at his fourth try at the DWTS trophy. The final results will be revealed Tuesday and the season 16 winner will be announced.
