Actress Mayim Bialik is officially divorced from her husband of nine years, according to TMZ.com.

The Big Bang Theory actress announced that she and now ex-husband Michael Stone would be divorcing in November 2012. She cited the cause as "irreconcilable differences" and sought joint custody of their two sons, Miles, 7, and Frederick, 4.

Bialik and Stone  managed to quietly divide their mutual property. He received a three-bedroom home in Sherman Oaks, while the actress kept a one-bed room apartment in nearby Studio City.

In a post written on the parenting blog Kveller.com around the time of the November announcement, the actress stated that "divorce is terribly sad, painful and incomprehensible for children," and that it was a decision not taken lightly.

Bialik, previously known for playing the character Blossom on the 1090s NBC show, became as known in recent times for her advocacy of attachment parenting as much as her acting. The parenting style encourages parents to maintain almost constant contact with their children through methods such as co-sleeping and long-term breast feeding -- the actress notably breast fed her youngest son until age four while continuing her daily work on The Big Bang Theory.

Bialik wrote a book in 2012 explaining her ideas on parenting, Beyond The Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way. The actress said in a speech upon accepting the Anti-Defamation League's Deborah Award in 2012, "attached parenting is looking to encourage people to parent the way mammals are designed to parent,"

"There's nothing weird or unusual about nursing a child, or about natural childbirth, or about sleeping with your child safely," she added, "so I actually think it's kind of fascinating where we see conventional corporate medical institutions upset about things the body was designed to do."

However, she claimed when she made the announcement that the parenting style was not considered a factor in the divorce: "relationships," the actress insisted, "are complicated no matter what style of parenting you choose."

In addition to her previous acting experience in her youth, Bialik is also accomplished in education. She earned a Ph. D. in neuroscience in 2007 from the University of California Los Angeles.
