It's quite hard to believe that the CBS hit sitcom television series, "How I Met Your Mother," had ended almost three years ago. The creators of the series initially had plans to take advantage of the show's popularity by producing a spinoff series titled "How I Met Your Dad." Unfortunately, due to several circumstances, the spinoff's pilot episode was never really released.

Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who worked on the original series, had actually written and produced the pilot for "How I Met Your Dad," which starred Greta Gerwig in the lead role.CBS had ordered the pilot episode of the spinoff series while "How I Met Your Mother" was still airing its ninth season.

The story was supposedly going to be taking a female's perspective this time around, while also still offering the same type of comedy that the original show was known for. The pilot was never actually released and several months later Aptaker and Berger reworked the series and proposed a new spinoff called "How I Met Your Father."

According to a report from Digital Spy, the new spinoff series' pilot episode may be shelved once again this year. The report reveals that Aptaker and Berger will likely be too busy to fully work on the project this year as they apparently now have bigger priorities at hand. TV Line has revealed that both producers have reportedly been promoted from being co-executive producers to showrunners for NBC's new hit television series, "This is Us."

NBC's latest television, which features an ensemble cast, has been renewed for a second and third season. Given that the show will have a total of 36 episodes that needs to made, it will be highly unlikely for Aptaker and Berger to shift their focus onto anything else.

As it stands, the "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff series, "How I Met Your Father," is still not linked to any network. CBS and FOX have also not yet to made any announcements regarding plans to produce the spinoff anytime soon.
