Lamar Odom's 18-year-old daughter, Destiny Odom, opened up about his October 2015 overdose and struggles with substance abuse in an open essay this week.

As fans may recall, Destiny and her younger brother, 14-year-old Lamar Jr., rushed to their father's side after he suffered an overdose in Las Vegas. However, at the time, the children believed they were headed to the West Coast only to say goodbye to the former Lakers star.

Luckily, Odom did not die from his drug overdose and has become sober since then.

"The next morning, he was ripping tubes out of his mouth and I don't really think that's a coincidence," Destiny wrote via In Touch Weekly. "I think he was meant to be here because of me and my brother. It sounds like a cheesy movie, but I think that everything happens for a reason."

Odom suffered a drug overdose after partying for several days at a Las Vegas brothel and was hospitalized for three months.

"I basically gave him the ultimatum that it was rehab or me not speaking to him anymore," Destiny continued. "I think that hit him really hard."

Although Odom was believed to have relapsed in early 2016, he went to rehab months later. Since Odom spent months in rehab, Destiny claims her dad is a whole new person.

"When your parent is an addict and they get clean, it's like a whole new world," she said. "A whole new person, really. It's crazy what therapy and rehab can do to a person. He's just a lot more clear and in the moment and he's more apologetic. He's able to see more the pain that he's caused when he's clean."
