Man of Steel is looking to become the second highest film opening of the year, with projections currently at $125 million for the weekend.

The Superman origin story grossed an additional $46 million on Friday after its $12 million midnight release on Thursday. Deadline projected on Saturday that it could reach $132 million for its first four days. Only Iron Man 3 has grossed more in its opening weekend this year, raking in $174 million in May.

Man of Steel has been released in 4,207 theaters, 3,357 of which are 3D showings. The inflated 3D ticket price will only help Man of Steel reach new heights at the box office.

Man of Steel stars British actor Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as the villainous General Zod and Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Kent's adoptive parents. Russell Crowe and Laurence Fishburne round out the all-star cast. The film is directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and written by David S. Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins). The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan developed the story and produced the film.

Coming in at No. 2 for the weekend is expected to be This Is The End. The R-rated comedy starring Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jay Baruchel and Jonah Hill is expected to rake in $32 million in its first five days of release. The film made an additional $7 million on Friday after grossing the same total for its opening on Wednesday.

Heist magic thriller Now You See Me will continue its impressive box office run, with an additional $11.5 million projected for the weekend. The film shocked the industry when it beat Will Smith blockbuster After Earth in both film's opening weekend. Now You See Me may hit the coveted $100 million total within the next few weeks.

Rounding out the top 5 are former box office champs The Purge and Fast & Furious 6, each grossing around $8.5 million.
