Mars Volta released its new album "Noctourniquet" today, which the band called the last record of its kind.

The album is inspired by mythologies, which range from that those of ancient Greece to the Superman saga, according to Rolling Stone.

Mars Volta's co-founder and lead singer Omar Rodriguez-Lopez said that after this album, the members will collaborate and participate in the songwriting process.

"It's been 10 years of totalitarianism and dictatorship, doing things my way of having complete control over everything," he said, according to Billboard.

"As far as the Mars Volta is concerned, [Noctourniquet is] the last record of its kind."

Noctourniquet is the band's sixth studio album and the first since 2009.

Rodriguez-Lopez and co founder Cedric Bixler-Zavala will reform their previous band At The Drive In for the first time in 11 years to perform at this 2012 Coachella Festival.
