Charlie Sheen traveled to Scotland recently to look for the fabled Loch Ness Monster.

The 47-year-old actor took a plane to Scotland to try and look for the monster "Nessie" on Loch Ness, a famous lake in the Scottish Highlands.  Sheen's friends Brian Pekk and Todd Zeile also joined him in searching for the "monster."

"Once again, MIT grant sanctioned archeologists Pekk & Sheen rig battle gear for tonight's sortie on the Loch Ness. C," Sheen tweeted on July 4.  The tweet also included a picture of Sheen wearing a hat shaped like a fin with Pekk right beside him.

The trip was a last-minute decision by Sheen, according to TMZ, and it involved the trio of friends going out on a boat and searching for "Nessie" with a bottle of scotch and little else.  TMZ also reported that the trip was only 24 hours before they were back in Los Angeles again.

Sheen and his friends stayed at Aldourie Castle, which is on the southern shore of Loch Ness.  The castle's general manager, Lavinia Turner, told the DailyRecord Thursday that Sheen and company were civil visitors.

"All I can say is that Mr. Sheen and his party were perfect guests and thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Scotland and Loch Ness," Turner said. "They had a wonderful and relaxing time but unfortunately didn't see any sign of Nessie."

Dougie, a former member of the Scots Guard, added that Sheen was "a true gent and he seemed to have had a fantastic trip."  He said that Sheen told him he would be coming back to Scotland soon.

The Loch Ness Monster has its own website that has every documented instance of people seeing the creature.  The first sighting was allegedly in 1933 when a couple saw the creature on land with a long neck and numerous arches on its back.

Many have tried to capture the creature, but like Sheen, they have all failed.
