Ciara's fifth and self-titled album has earned her the No. 2 spot on Billboard.

The album, which was released on July 9, sold a little over 57,000 copies in its first week, according to HitsDailyDouble. These sales are a massive increase from her previous album Basic Instinct, which only sold around 37,000 copies during the first week of its release in 2010. The album also only managed to peak at No. 44 on Billboard.

Jay-Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail was released the same day as Ciara's 2013 record. The rapper's record took the No. 1 spot on Billboard, selling 528, 208 copies. Jay-Z's album even managed to sell a little more than experts had predicted.

Ciara's vigorous promotional trail can be a major reason for the album's respectable sales. The record's promotion included video snippets for her songs DUI, Sophomore, Livin' it Up, Keep on Lookin' and Read My Lips. She also visited BET's 106 & Park a day prior to the album's release and performed a medley of her old hits, including Like A Boy, Oh, Promise and 1,2 Step. She also serenaded the crowd with her latest tunes DUI and Body Party.

During the show, Ciara explained the elements that make this album different than her previous four - Basic Instinct, 2009's Fantasy Ride, 2006's Ciara: The Evolution and her 2004 debut Goodies.

"I've changed a lot," she said. "I did like self-reflection, looked at myself, I was like 'you've got to live more, you've got to turn up more, you've got to let go more.'"

She also said she had the most fun putting Ciara together. It's also considered her most personal album to date.

"I was just really vulnerable and I allowed myself to do that and I think you have to do that to grow," she said.
