To what will surely be the disappointment to a ton of Star Wars diehards, rumors are swirling around that director J.J. Abrams may be pulling out of Star Wars: Episode VII.

According to Badass Digest, the news broke from several people in attendance at San Diego's fourth annual Comic-Con convention this past weekend.

"This has been something I've heard for a while now, and from multiple insiders. I know that he didn't want to shoot the movie in England and was overruled, but that happened a while ago. This weekend at Comic-Con I continued to hear these whispers," explained Devin Faraci, a source of the site.

Abrams is expected to be in attendance at a Star Wars celebration in Germany from July 26th to July 28th. Faraci speculates that if he doesn't show up or isn't very outspoken, then "it's likely that he will be bailing in the coming weeks."

LucasFilms rebuked the report of Abrams' potential departure by stating the following:

"There is no truth to the rumor ...JJ is having a great time working on the script and is looking forward to going into production next year."

Star Wars: Episode VII will be set around the time period following the events of Return of the Jedi. The film is slated to be rolled out on July 15, 2015. Only time will truly indicate whether Abrams will be at the helm for the highly popular franchise. A fan-made trailer of the future blockbuster can be watched below.
