Amid the chatter that Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder just may be out of contention for the role of Christian Grey, Man of Steele's Henry Cavill may now be the clear-cut frontrunner in the movie adaptation of E.L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey.

With his well-chiseled Superman physique and once again single status, the 30-year-old clearly has both his attributes and life's circumstances working in his favor.

The star actor has briefly dated Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco in early July for just 12 days.

Cavill had addressed the prospect of playing Grey to HNGN, saying that a potential casting would in no way, shape or form tarnish the Superman franchise.

"The chances are it will very much be a different vehicle than what Superman is, so it won't damage any of that character...because they'll see two very different things on screen," he said.

Fifty Shades screenwriter Kelly Marcel, who's currently in the process of refining the script, said that she would be sticking to the content of James' books with lots of sex and raunchiness. Producers are said to be aiming for an NC-17 rating, according to Style magazine.

The highly anticipated flick is scheduled to kick off on the big screen on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2014. Be sure to check back for more of the latest info on the erotic film.
