Netflix has dropped the first teaser trailer for Blonde, starring Ana de Armas as the legendary blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe, and it is truly haunting.

Completely embodying Norma Jean, de Armas definitely looks the part.

The trailer begins with its shadowy black and white footage of Marilyn sitting in front of a vanity mirror. Her hands clasped in a prayer gesture, she calls out sobbingly,

"Please come. Don't abandon me."

A voice confirms,

"She's coming. She's almost here."

What follows is a dark montage set to a grainy version of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," ending with Monroe laughing eerily at her reflection in the mirror.

Directed by Andrew Dominik, the cast includes Bobby Cannavale, Toby Huss, Adrien Brody, Caspar Philipson, and Evan Williams.

Based on the book of the same name by Joyce Carol Oats, the NC-17 plot is thus according to the Netflix description:

"Blonde boldly reimagines the life of one of Hollywood's most enduring icons, Marilyn Monroe.

"From her volatile childhood as Norma Jeane, through her rise to stardom and romantic entanglements, Blonde blurs the lines of fact and fiction to explore the widening split between her public and private selves."

Dominik had this to say about the film:

"The film is sincere. It's made with love. It's made with good intentions. But it's full of rage at the same time.

"I seem to get myself in these situations where people regard me as provocative, but it's never what I'm trying to do. I'm just trying to say it as clearly as I can. My ambition is to make you fall in love with Marilyn."

If anything, the film seems like an oddity to behold, showcasing the tragic life of one of Hollywood's most iconic visages.

Blonde will be streaming on Netflix on September 23.
