Action star Sylvester Stallone is stepping back into the role of a comic book superhero in his latest film Samaritan for Amazon Prime Video, which just released the first poster art for the production.

In the film, Stallone will be playing a hero who has not been on the scene for 25 years, after an epic battle.

The poster shows him as a normal man walking through an alley, bearded and grizzled in a hoodie and winter coat, his reflection in a puddle showing the hero he once was - A striking image for the 73-year-old actor, who looks just as formidable as he did in his heyday.

This is not the first time Stallone has tried his hand at playing a comic book hero. He played Stakar Ogord in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and before that took on the role of Judge Dredd in 1995 to middling reviews.

Director Julius Avery, who had decent success with the WWII zombie film Overlord, had a lot to say about the production. He discussed with TotalFilm how Sly was the closest thing we had for a superhero in the 80s:

"We didn't really have superheroes. We only had action heroes. And Sly was the closest thing we had to a superhero. So to put him in a superhero movie? That feels fresh and cool and something that people will get a kick out of."

He continued,

"This is a big event movie - we see our heroes kicking ass. We're going to see Sly do things he hasn't done in a long time, and in a really inventive way. He's 73 years old! I'm amazed by how much he actually does. I'm telling you, most guys in their twenties wouldn't be able to do what Sly does in this movie."

Samaritan will stream on Amazon Prime Video on August 26th.
