Comedian Chris Redd reveals their next big plans following his recent departure from "Saturday Night Live" as a 5-year mainstay.

Redd rose to prominence during his 2017 debut as a cast member of the late-night live variety show "Saturday Night Live". During his time on the show, he won the "Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics" category during the 2018 Primetime Emmy Awards for co-writing the "SNL" song "Come Back Barack".

However, after 5 years as a mainstay cast member, the 37-year-old comedian revealed to The Hollywood Reporter his decision to leave the show ahead of the upcoming 48th season. In his statement, the "SNL" alum detailed his experience and expressed his gratitude for working alongside his NBC co-stars.

"Being a part of SNL has been the experience of a lifetime. Five years ago, I walked into 30 Rock knowing that this was an amazing opportunity for growth. Now, with friends who have become family and memories I will cherish forever, I'm grateful to Lorne Michaels and to the entire SNL organization. From the bottom of my heart, I can't thank you all enough." Redd stated.

Redd's Next Big Move After SNL

Following his departure statement, the 37-year-old comedian also detailed his next gig to headline the upcoming HBO Max comedy special, "Chris Redd: Why Am I Like This?".

The "Saturday Night Live" alum recently recorded his upcoming project at The Grandel in August and detailed the HBO special in an interview with St. Louis magazine.

"I'm just excited to like have people know me in a real way comedically," Redd explained. "I play a lot of other people in a lot of things that I do, but now I get to bring people into my life."

Aside from his comedy special, Redd will also be featured in Universal's upcoming film "Cyber Monday" which is currently still in development. He is also set to co-create and star in an unnamed project from Michaels' Broadway Video and Audible.
