A Michigan couple with eleven boys was expecting to finally welcome a baby girl but was surprised when their 12th child, born a few days ago, was another boy.

The Today Show reported on Aug 7. that Kateri and Jay Schwandt thought they would try one more time for a little girl, who would have 11 big brothers to protect her, but instead welcomed another boy to the clan.

The couple feel blessed they have twelve happy and healthy sons. There is quite an age difference between their oldest son Tyler and their youngest Tucker. A 21-year age difference to be exact.

"We thought maybe... maybe, if we're going to have a girl... number 12 could be the one," Kateri said on the Today Show.

Even though there is a wide age range between the children, the Schwandt's said they are a close knit family. While many families try to have another baby to purposely try for a boy or try for a girl this Michigan family did just that, eleven times.

"We are confident that he's going to fit right in and we gave up a long time ago on a little girl showing up in this family," Kateri said to Matt Lauer.

Jay explained that with thirteen males, including himself, they live in a pretty "testosterone" filled house.

The Schwandt's have had a baby almost every other year for the past 20 years.

he news prompted Today Show host Matt Lauer to add in the interview, "Any baby is a blessing."
