One Direction's Zayn Malik realizes that some may think he is crazy for getting a tattoo of his girlfriend Perrie Edwards, but said he is confident in his decision because their relationship is the strongest it has ever been.

Malik, 20, got an image of Edwards' face tattooed on his right arm in June during the band's visit to Maryland. The tattoo shows Edwards, 20, in a bobble hat, what looks like a camouflage jacket and a T-shirt with a peace symbol in it as her wavy hair flows down her waist. The ink job was done a little over a year after Malik and the Little Mix singer started dating. 

Malik admitted that his tattoo of his girlfriend is "a little bit crazy," but reportedly told The Sun that he told Edwards of his plans before getting the inking done. When asked if he regrets getting the tattoo, he said, "Of course not. "

"It's not a direct portrait but it's all the things I like about her," he added. "I didn't tell her before I had it done and just surprised her with it when I came back from the States one day."

Describing Edwards' reaction to his body art portrait of her, Malik continued: "She was shocked at first but loves it now. She thinks I'm crazy, like everyone else does. To be fair, I am a little bit crazy... I'm happy to be labeled the crazy one of the group."

One Direction is preparing for the premiere of their movie This Is Us, which will hit theaters cross the United Kingdom on Aug. 29 and in the U.S. the next day. The band hit worldwide success after competing individually on The X Factor: U.K. After they failed to make it far in the competition individually they decided to form a band after the suggestion was made by one of the show's hosts, Simon Cowell.

Malik said if he was not with 1D, he would probably be getting a degree in English Literature.

"If I wasn't doing this, I'd be at uni. I wanted to, and still quite want to, do an English degree," he said. "It's frustrating because I don't get any time to read on tour. I don't get time to call my mum and dad, never mind get stuck into a book. As soon as I try, I fall asleep."
