Singer Perrie Edwards walked the red carpet at One Direction's This Is Us film premiere on Aug. 20 wearing a huge diamond ring on her ring finger and the band's rep confirmed hours later that Zayn Malik and Edwards are engaged.

Malik, 20, proposed to his long-time girlfriend, 20, during a quiet weekend on Aug. 18 when they were "alone together," a source reportedly told The Mirror.

Together they walked the red carpet in London Leicester Square for the One Direction: This Is Us movie premiere. One Direction's rep confirmed the engagement and said, "Zayn and Perrie are engaged, but any further detail regarding their relationship is private." Edwards' mother, Debbie Duffy, confirmed the couple's engagement in an interview with Real Radio North East's Gary and Lisa Show. 

"It's true. They got engaged on Sunday and it was absolutely lovely and, you know, I feel . . . it's wonderful because Zayn's absolutely gorgeous and Perrie loves him to pieces and it's just perfect!" she said. "They just get on so well together and they understand each other so it's just fabulous!"

Duffy said Mailk was a gentleman and asked for her permission before proposing.

"He did the traditional asking me and then asking his mum and dad and everything," she shared, "and it was fabulous, just lovely. I was like a little emotional and, like, ahhhhhh, it was so lovely," Duffy added of Malik's request. "And I just thought it was adorable."

Zayn Malik Almost Kicked Out of One Direction?

Edwards and Malik met in December 2011 on the set of the United Kingdom's The X Factor and began dating in April 2012, according to the report. They began living together back in February 2013. Malik got an image of Edwards' face tattooed on his right arm in June during the band's visit to Maryland.  

"It's one of the first weekends they've spent with each other, as they've both been on tours with their bands. He wanted to wait for the perfect moment," the insider added about the proposal. "All of [Perrie's] bandmates were at V Festival, and she couldn't wait to tell them. They're all really excited for her, as the rest of One Direction are for Zayn."

"Zayn got down on one knee and presented Perrie with the ring. She couldn't believe it. It's a shock to everyone," a separate source also added to The Sun.
