Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon offered his opinion on Kendrick Lamar's controversial verse featured on Big Sean's Control.

The New York native said Lamar is not the king of the city, despite what the 26-year-old declared on the song.

"The king of New York to me is in the ground and that's B.I.G.," Raekwon told ItsBizKit.com recently. "[He] really earned that positioning in the game to be called that."

The veteran rapper, who wasn't mentioned in Lamar's verse, defended the Compton native by saying Lamar was simply "rhyming" and "having fun." He also isn't angry with Lamar's self-proclamation. In fact, he fancies the newcomer.

"I think he's lyrical. I think he's a good emcee. But it probably was one of those nights. He was feeling himself ," he said during the interview. "But I love him. I love his energy."

ASAP Rocky, who was one of the rappers targeted in the verse, had a similar reaction to the song's lyrics.

"What he did, it was something that has never been done in a long time," the rapper said during an interview with the radio show Hot 97. "People can't tell you nothing about that verse but those lyrics and that's okay. He ripped it."

Rocky went on to praise the California rapper and called him "one of the most talented" in the industry today. He also said that the other rappers who were referenced in the song shouldn't be offended with the name-dropping. However, the fact that Lamar deemed himself the "King of N.Y." didn't sit well with ASAP.

"That king of New York sh--, you smoking crack. You crazy," the rapper added during his radio interview. "I got a crib in L.A. I'm doing the same venues, if not bigger venues...I'm not gonna go say I'm the king of L.A. I could, at least I live there."
