Macklemore and Ryan Lewis brought their popular rap style to the Barclays Center stage for the MTV Video Music Awards.

Performing their marriage equality anthem, Same Love, the duo made a statement while supporting their six nominations.

Having already received several awards, the indie rappers took the stage once more for a moving and mellow performance of their social impact track. Preceded by a speech regarding same sex marriage, the pair did justice to the intro they were given.

"What an amazing opportunity to take a great song with a great message and give it that platform," said the pair's manager Zach Quillen, according to MTV. "That's one of the things I'm most proud of, being part of that song and history and getting it to the audience that the VMAs provides."

With songs about everything from parties to same sex marriage to picking up your granddad's cloths at the local thrift shop, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis raked in the nominations this year. Up for Video of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video, Best Video With A Social Message, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, and Best Editing, the rappers had three songs - Same Love, Thrift Shop, Can't Hold Us- represented in the Awards.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis released their most recent album, The Heist, last October.
