Although Falling Skies' third season may have only recently finished its run on TNT, the cast already have scripts in hand and are preparing to being shooting again soon.

Season 3 saw the arrival of a new alien species - the Volm - who were willing to help the human resistance. After they successfully helped the human resistance destroy the Espheni grid, the Volm reluctantly allowed the 2nd Mass to ignore their edict that humans must relocate to Brazil while they eradicate the Espheni invasion force. Tom (Noah Wyle) will be leading his forces off on their own once more when the new season begins.

A New Character Will Abandon the Espheni Cause for the Resistance

"Thematically, the way it's been explained to me is that we went a little out there in the sci-fi wing last season, and we're going to pull it back a bit and focus more on these characters and interpersonal conflict," Wyle recently said, according to Zap2It. "There's a couple big story lines that are going to run over the course of the season but I can't divulge them yet."

In the meantime, Tom must get to know his new daughter. When Anne (Moon Bloodgood) and "baby" Lexi reappeared following Karen's (Jessy Schram) death, the half-alien, half-human child had grown to the age of seven in only a few weeks.

How Alien is Falling Skies' Baby Lexi?

"Tom is still getting to know this new daughter of his, who he thought was six months old and looks very much like a seven year old," Wyle told Zap2It. "And her growth rate will continue to be pretty accentuated. It should make for some interesting story lines."

Set only two weeks after the events of "Brazil," Zap2It hints that the premiere will disclose a major development that will "radically redefine" Anne's character and set a new direction for Tom as a character.

Falling Skies will return to TNT next summer.
