Claire Danes won the Emmy for Best Leading Actress in a Drama Series Sunday night for her role as Carrie Mathison on Homeland, her second consecutive win for the role.

Danes gave a special part of her speech crediting the show's writers, specifically Henry Bromell, who passed away in March.

"I have to take this moment to recognize our most treasured...one of our very most treasured writers, Henry Bromell, who won tonight," Danes said. "He passed away in March, and we just love him so much. He was a brilliant person, and so kind, and we think of him every day as we continue to work on the show that he helped define."

Bromell's wife accepted his award on his behalf earlier on in the broadcast.

Danes, who also won the award last year, beat stiff competition including Vera Farmiga, who stars as Norma Bates on the breakout hit Bates Motel; Michelle Dockery from Downtown Abbey; Robin Wright from the Netflix hit House of Cards; Elisabeth Moss from Mad Men; and Connie Britton and Kerry Washington from Nashville and Scandal, the only two in the category nominated from network shows.

Season 3 of Homeland premieres Sunday Sept. 29 on Showtime.
