American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy said that the upcoming season of the horror anthology series is his favorite one yet.

Speaking to reporters Thursday, Murphy said the upcoming season, titled American Horror Story: Coven, will be lighter in tone than the second season's Asylum.

"It's my favorite season we've done so far, largely because I love the comedy of it and I think it's really scary," Murphy said, noting that Asylum was "dark and grim and hard."

Coven, on the other hand, "was designed to be scary, but more fun. I heard a lot last year, 'Oh we love it, but it's hard to sit through.' So I wanted this year to be not so hard to sit through."

Another nod to the relatively light first season is the return of Evan Peters and Taissa Farmiga's characters being love interests. Farmiga will be playing young witch Zoe in Coven while Peters is playing a frat boy Kyle.

"I wanted to write something for them, a love story, but I wanted it to be different," Murphy explained. "I think fans like that in some weird way that love story is reincarnated."

However, Zoe has the unfortunate power of being able to kill someone through having sex with them, according to a new report by E!Online. This proves difficult after Zoe sets her eyes on Kyle at a frat party.

Murphy also revealed that Coven would have two mythological villains in the same vein as season 1's Rubber Man and Asylum's Bloody Face. Viewers will be introduced to The Minotaur, who is born out of evil socialite Madame LaLaurie's treatment of her slaves, and The Axeman, a possible adaptation of the Axeman serial killer from New Orleans.

American Horror Story: Coven premieres Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 10 p.m. on FX.
