Dax Shepard married Kristen Bell in a last minute decision two weeks ago and confirmed that the wedding didn't even cost them $150.

After waiting until same-sex couples could legally marry in California, the long-time pair wed in a small and spontaneous ceremony at Beverly Hills City Clerk's Office.

Shepard, 38, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live Oct. 28 and discussed the surprise wedding with Bell.

Kimmel started the show by introducing Shepard and congratulating him on the marriage, which caused the actor to proclaim that he was the "luckiest man in America." The talk show host asked him how much the wedding cost and the actor responded by comparing his nuptials to Kimmel's, which he attended, to explain the reasoning behind their quick ceremony.

"I'm a frugal person, and your wedding when I was there...there were helicopters overhead, and it sort of felt like an episode of MASH," Shepard said. "I made a mental note to go a different route. So we went to the Beverly Hills courthouse and all in with fuel to get there...$142 out the door."

The actor also revealed his plans for a ring, which will add to the total cost the couple put out for their wedding.

"I don't yet have a ring...I am going to follow your course, because you got your ring at Costco," Shepard added.

After Kimmel said he spent $340 buying two rings at the wholesale giant, Shepard then joked about the expense.

"C'mon...that's twice the cost of my wedding...that's a weird proportion there," he said.

Shepard and Bell were together for six years before their wedding. They got engaged in 2010 but said they would delay their nuptials until their home state of California legalized same-sex marriage. The couple have a daughter, Lincoln Bell Shepard, that they welcomed in March.

The Supreme Court decided in June to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act in a landmark 5-4 decision and then ruled specifically against California's Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in the state.

Bell cheered the decision on her Twitter page at the time, writing, "@daxshepard1 will you marry me? Xo #marriageequality #loveislove."
