Alanis Morissette's 'Jagged Little Pill' Broadway Musical in the Works; Workshop Production Planned for 2014 [VIDEO]

A Broadway musical adaptation of Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill is in the works.

The new musical will debut as a workshop production, which will be arranged and orchestrated by Tom Kitt -- who worked on the Broadway adaptation of Green Day's album, American Idiot, and the the Tony Award will musical Next to Normal -- in 2014. Morissette's 1995 breakthrough album propelled her to international stardom. Co-written and produced by Glenn Ballard claimed the number one spot on the U.S. Billboard 200, staying there for twelve non-consecutive weeks.

All the songs from the album will feature in the musical and Morissette also plans to write some original songs for it.

"I've always had stage aspirations," Morissette said in an interview about the Broadway production.

The idea was suggested to Morissette by American Idiot producer, Vivek J. Tiwary.

Morissette also suggested that she might be interested in starring in the show like Billie Joe Armstrong did with American Idiot.

"I don't know whether it would be me starting in the role or coming in at some point, but I'm totally open to the possibility of that," Morissette said. "I think once (the book) is written, it will become more obvious whether I was born to originate the role."

Morissette and Tiwary are currently looking for a librettist.

"It's not a concept album the way American Idiot was," Tiwary said. "But there is a woman in a relationship where the other person has more power. She ends up getting dumped, and is vilified, but comes to a place of empowerment."

Morissette also suggested that it is all about having "chemistry" with her collaborators. "With all of us exploring the exploitation and sadness and loss and empowerment and all these beautiful flavors of my humanity...I'm happy to provide all the autobiographical experiences, but if there are fictitious elements brought in, that would be fine," she said.
