Justin Bieber tweeted on Thursday, Nov. 14 a series of messages defending his actions after he was called out for disrespecting Argentinians during his Believe concert over the weekend.

Many got upset at the way the 19-year-old mishandled a flag thrown on stage. Part of the South American leg of his world tour Bieber performed in Buenos Aires on Nov. 9. He was criticized that night after fans tossed a pair of Argentine flags onto the stage. Bieber wiped them across and off the stage, using both his shoes and microphone stand.

Many of Bieber's Argentine fans were offended by his actions, which were captured in various cell phone videos and posted to Youtube. Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, tweeted that same day that the singer "spent the day dealing with the pandemonium (Bieber) caused in Argentina."

The Associated Press noted that disgracing Argentina's flag is a crime "punishable by up to four years in prison."

Bieber tweeted a message directed at his fans and while he apologized for his actions, he admitted that at first he was not sure what exactly was thrown on stage. The singer said he did not realize a fan tossed him a flag.

"Heard about what is going on with me down in Argentina and im shocked. I love Argentina and have had some of the best shows of my tour there," he began. "People throw stuff on my stage all show and i get it to the stage hands to get off so no one got hurt. that video i saw a bra and thought...it was a shirt."

"Im being told by my team it was a shirt but even if it was a flag I would never do anything to disrespect Argentina...or the people or Argentina or the fans," he continued. "Im so sorry for anyone who took my actions the wrong way and I hope you can forgive this mistake."

Bieber once again pleaded for forgiveness, following his message with a tweet that read "Im sorry if that was taken the wrong way and im sorry for my mistake. I hope u can accept this."

The Canada native said he "loved" his time performing in Brazil, "gave my all" and looks forward to returning to the country in the future.

"I would never do anything to disrespect my fans. I dont like having to defend myself but this time it was needed as I mean no disrespect," he said. "So it is all love all around the world. thanks."
