The Daily Show's John Oliver will be leaving The Daily Show to host a comedy show for HBO, the television network announced on Nov. 14.

Seems like the British comedian's stint filling in for Jon Stewart -- who took a 12 week hiatus to shoot his first film -- on The Daily Show paid off.

Michael Lombardo, the president of HBO programming, and Oliver, commented on the announcement in a press release.

Lombardo clearly stated that HBO's plan to create the show was solely motivated by Oliver's gig as host of The Daily Show. He suggested that they felt Oliver belonged in the realm of their television network.

"We weren't otherwise searching for another weekly talk show, but when we saw John Oliver handling host duties on 'The Daily Show,' we knew that his singular perspective and distinct voice belonged on HBO," said Michael Lombardo, the president of HBO Programming. "We are extremely excited that John has agreed to make HBO his home."

While celebrating the move, Oliver made sure to credit Stewart for propelling his career and helping him with his craft over the years.

"I'm incredibly excited to be joining HBO, especially as I presume this means I get free HBO now. I want to thank Comedy Central, and everyone at 'The Daily Show' for the best seven and a half years of my life. But most of all, I'd like to thank Jon Stewart He taught me everything I know. In fact, if I fail in the future, it's entirely his fault," he said.

Much like The Daily Show  and Bill Maher's show, which already airs on HBO, the comedy will take a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events. It will debut in 2014 and will air on Sunday nights
