Rihanna will become the first recipient of the Icon award at the 2013 American Music Awards on Sunday.

The Bajan beauty will accept the honor during the ceremony at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on Calif. on Nov. 24, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"The first-ever Icon Award was created to honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level," show producer Larry Klein told Los Angeles Times. "Rihanna's iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and bestselling artists of all time."

The Pour It Up singer earned what the show's producer called the "special merit" award because the 25-year-old has released an impressive seven albums in seven years, sold 50 million albums, 180 million singles and is considered the most-watched artist on Vevo/YouTube.

Pitbull will host the ceremony and perform his latest single Timber with Ke$ha, who appears on the song.
