With just a single episode remaining in the first half of AMC's The Walking Dead's fourth season, fans are now more curious than ever to see how Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the Governor (Andrew Morrissey) will respond to one another.

During the last episode, the good guy Governor schick was clearly brought into question as the former Woodbury leader killed Martinez along with his second in command, Pete (Enver Gjokaj), and summoned his brother Mitch (Kirk Acevedo) to be his right-hand man in the process.

While many loyalists of the show were surely quick to assume that "Brian" was back to his usual antics, showrunner Scott Gimple told The Hollywood Reporter explained that the situation is more complex than that.

"The Governor was really trying not to engage with Lily, Tara and Megan at all in episode six. He knew that if he got close to them, he'd probably fall in love with them. If he fell in love with them, he'd have to protect them," he explained.

The Walking Dead is set to make its return to the small screen for episode 8, Too Far Gone, on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 9/8 p.m. Central Standard Time. The promo video for the upcoming installment can be viewed below.
