Demi Lovato's struggle with drugs convinced Joe Jonas to stay in their relationship and help her when the former Disney stars dated in 2010 for a few months, he admitted in a candid article for Vulture magazine.

Titled "My Life As a Jonas Brother," Jonas wrote about his desire to help the Skyscraper singer get past her struggles before they decided to break up, even though their relationship "meant a lot to fans." The former boy band singer was not happy staying in the relationship when he no longer had feelings for Lovato, but felt like he had to in order to help her recover.

"I really got to know her and got to see the ins and outs of what she was struggling with, like drug abuse," he said. "I felt like I needed to take care of her, but at the same time I was living a lie, because I wasn't happy but felt like I had to stay in it for her, because she needed help. I couldn't express any of that, of course, because I had a brand to protect...Now I'm with someone I really care about. We get each other."

Lovato and Jonas were initially an on screen couple in Disney's Camp Rock. Lovato's drug addiction made things chaotic during the few month they dated off screen. People close to her in the end told her she needed to seek help.

"It was an insane situation to be in. Things kept building up, and Demi ended up punching a girl in the face on a plane, because she thought the girl was blaming her for something," he said. "Everybody gasped, and the girl just started bleeding. That's when her team and her family told her, 'You need to go into rehab.'

In the same article, Jonas revealed that Lovato and pop singer Miley Cyrus pressured him to try marijuana when he was just 17 or 18 years old.

"They kept saying, "Try it! Try it!" so I gave it a shot, and it was all right," he explained. "I don't even smoke weed that often anymore."

He also told the magazine he didn't lose his virginity until he was 20.

'I'm glad I waited for the right person, because you look back and you go, ''That girl was bats*** crazy.' I'm glad I didn't go there.''
