Colorado High School Shooting 2013: Arapahoe High School Leaves At Least Two Injured, Gunman Reportedly Dead [VIDEO]
Two people, including one student, are hurt after a gunman, who is presumed to be dead, opened fire at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo., just outside of Denver, according to The Denver Post.
The injured student is currently suffering from a gunshot wound, but information on the extent of his injuries has yet to be released. While the gunman was still on the loose in the building in what police called an "active shooter situation", other students were able to escape safely. Student witnesses stated that at least two other students were shot in the cafeteria. They were instructed by law enforcement to put their hands above their heads and walk in a single file line to the school's track area.
One student said, "I was scared and shaking." She recalled hearing bangs before crawling to the ground for safety.
A senior at the school, Nich Herzog, said he found out about the shooting through a text message after staying home from school sick.
"A lot of them are scared. One of my friends was right next to someone who was shot and she's really shaken up. They are really scared and they want to get out."
A fire also reportedly broke out at the school.
The Denver Post was able to confirm the shooting with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office and other schools in the area are still on lockdown.
CNN has reported that the gunman allegedly died from a self-afflicted gunshot.
