Cate Blanchett has officially nabbed for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama for Blue Jasmin, beating out the likes of Gravity's Sandra Bullock, Philomena's Judi Dench, Saving Mr. Banks' Emma Thompson, and Labor Day's Kate Winslet.

Interestingly enough, the respective honor was first given out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association as a separate category in 1951, with only one sole award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture.

However, it was later split up between drama and the musical/comedy category, allowing audiences to individually acknowledge both genres.

The very first Golden Globe Awards ceremony took place in January 1944 in Los Angeles at the 20th-Century Fox studios. Since 1961, the highly anticipated festivities have been held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Calif., which is where it has stayed ever since.

At its inception in 2005, it was initially worded as Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture

Interestingly enough, the NBC network had the exclusive rights to broadcast the Golden Globes. Eventually, an announcement was made that there wouldn't be any limitations imposed on other media outlets covering the press conference, as they were ultimately able to announce those projects and actors who were winners.
