A popular soap opera actor is about to become the new "squintern" on Bones season 9.

Ignacio Serricchio (The Young and the Restless) has been cast as the new "squintern" of the Jeffersonian team. Serricchio is played to play a well-known forensic anthropologist residing from Cuba who travels to the U.S. to seek asylum.

"He has to work his way up to a position that he already occupied for many years," Bones executive producer Stephen Nathan told TVLine previously. "He feels that he's Brennan's equal, but Brennan really doesn't feel the same."

Serricchio will debut his new character in one of this spring's episodes.

In other Bones news, Nathan also spoke with Give Me My Remote about the new Ghost Killer, who began haunting Brennan's dreams in the latest episode of the series. The EP is confident that they will not feature the Ghost Killer for as long as Pelant (Andrew Leeds), the multi-season serial killer.

"We had such a long-running serial killer, that we didn't want to do that again," Nathan stated. "It would be a mistake to repeat - or try and repeat - [what we've done]. Pelant was on for a year and a half, almost. And before that, we would have three episode arcs or five episode arcs - the Gravedigger went for a while - but this is going to be very, very different in the way we're handling this. She was a serial killer, but that doesn't mean the killer is going to continue to kill."

He went on to explain that he and showrunner Hart Hanson are not huge fans of serial killers as a topic for storytelling. The EP anticipates that the Ghost Killer storyline will be done in either episode 20 or 21 of season 9.

Bones season 9 airs Fridays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
