The popular reality TV series "Married At First Sight," is currently under fire following claims made by past female contestants on the UK show, accusing their on-screen husbands of rape and sexual misconduct whilst filming the show. The allegations have caused political outrage, resulting in UK authorities calling for an investigation, whilst the current U.S. season has just begun airing.

According to Radar Online, the British Channel 4 version of the show was the focus of a recent BBC Panorama episode titled "The Dark Side of Married at First Sight", which detailed distressing accounts from women who said they were sexually assaulted or raped by participants during production. One former contestant, Shona Manderson, alleged that her on-screen husband, Bradley Skelly, engaged in non-consensual sexual acts.

The revelations have caused alarm among TV executives and producers. One of the insiders revealed that there is a growing sense of panic among people about the scandal that may harm the brand's image beyond repair. The industry experts have concerns about the program being able to restore the public's trust due to such an alarming situation.

AOL reported that the UK's security minister Dan Jarvis made public comments on this matter on BBC Breakfast. He said that a police inquiry may be initiated, as these allegations are shocking and highly disturbing.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are aware of media reports but have not yet received formal complaints. They plan to engage with production teams to ensure victims know how to report incidents.

UK politicians and women's advocacy groups have condemned the show's format and called for all allegations to be fully investigated. Dame Caroline Dinenage, chairwoman of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, called the premise horrifying in light of the accusations. Women's Aid described the claims as "disturbing and sobering."

Channel 4 has denied any wrongdoing, calling the allegations wholly uncorroborated and disputed.

Meanwhile, the new U.S. Viewers have had mixed reactions to Seasons of Peacock, with some criticizing the pacing and warning about the possibility of toxic relationships to come.

With such intense scrutiny, it's still uncertain whether "Married at First Sight" will continue as normal or if the networks will reassess their options with the growing concern for the safety of the cast members.
