The first teaser for Steven Spielberg's upcoming sci-fi TV show, Extant, starring Halle Berry, was revealed on Jan. 21.

The clip doesn't show glimpses of Berry or any of the characters, it is essentially a 25-second promo which introduces the show by defining the word 'extant.'

In the show Berry will be playing the role of an astronaut who returns home to her family after having spent a whole year in space. The show deals with her trying to get back to normal life, which includes reconnecting with her husband and son.

Spielberg has previously stated in a press statement that he was "incredibly honored" to have Berry on board and looked forward to working with her.

"There's only one Halle Berry, and we are incredibly honored that she has chosen Extant to expand her illustrious career," he said. "As she does with everything she touches, she will bring a deep authenticity to her role and I very much look forward to working with her."

Nina Tassler, the entertainment president at CBS, said that having Berry star in the show and make her debut in television with CBS was a "big coup" for the network. "Especially with such an exciting original concept and a role layered with mystery and humanity," she added.

Berry was also very excited about the 13-episode show. The Oscar-winning actress said that she was always on the lookout for amazing roles and when she saw the material containing strong "auspices, nuance and complexity" it compelled her to take it up irrespective of the medium.

"For five months a year I'll get to live with and play this incredibly intelligent and vulnerable woman, and for the remainder of the year I'll continue to look for other roles that move me as deeply as this one," she said in the same press statement.

The show is scheduled to premiere on July 2 on CBS.
