Doctor Who may be preparing to put a sci-fi twist on one of London's most famous serial killer mysteries.

The BBC series is currently filming a Victorian-era episode for the season 8 premiere, and the Daily Mail claims that the plot will involve Jack the Ripper.

Fans caught sight of an ominous, black-cloaked man strolling the fake city streets of England's capital while the series was on location shooting in Newport, Wales last weekend. Donning a towering top hat complete with CGI friendly green dots, the unidentified actor gave a menacing scowl as filming continued.

Now with Peter Capaldi at the TARDIS controls as the Twelfth Doctor, Doctor Who will be bringing back some familiar faces for the premiere in order to ease fans into the change. This means the Paternoster Gang is heading back to the series for at least one episode this fall.

Comprised of Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh), Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart), Strax (Dan Starkey) it makes sense to bring these detective characters in on the famous case.

"This time I've made sure we've got a bunch of characters around him so that we can have a new Doctor introduced and we can push that Doctor a bit further if you've got a familiar world around him," Moffat said, according to Doctor Who TV.
