Gleaned from last year's History channel miniseries, The Bible, the new Roma Downey and Mark Burnett production will focus solely on the story of Jesus.
Chronicling Jesus' (Diogo Morgado) life from his birth in the manger to his death and resurrection, Son of God has taken five episodes of The Bible and condensed it down into a feature length film with a selection of never before seen scenes.
A new trailer (see below) portrays the Christian leader as a man of the people, both approachable and awe-inspiring at the same time. Morgado, a Portuguese actor with a religious upbringing, drew from his own life experience in order to help the audience connect with the Son of God.
"I grew up as a Christian and I always think of Jesus as someone right next to us, you know, someone really close, and I never actually saw that onscreen in a way that could be identified," Morgado explained to Good Morning America. "So I actually tried to go that way and build this relationship of one-on-one with the viewer."
Viewers experience Son of God for themselves when it hits theaters on Feb. 28.
