There will be a lot more drama between Meredith and Derek on the midseason premiere of Grey's Anatomy than was expected.

The premiere, which picks up right after Jackson interrupts April's wedding, will be immensely shocking, especially in the first five minutes, TV Line also noted.

Before the show's winter finale, Derek turned down an offer to partake in a prestigious study for Meredith. But, he then received a phone call from the President of the United States to join him on a brain mapping project. How could he turn down the President, right?

Well, Meredith may expect him to. The upcoming episode's synopsis also reveals that she "feels betrayed when Derek goes back on a promise," hinting that he may accept the President's offer.

Sarah Drew, who plays April on the show, previously revealed how much of an impact that one phone call will have for the couple's relationship.

"I can tell you that everything kind of gets turned upside emotionally because of the President's phone call to Derek," Drew told Glamour. "All kinds of things get messed up because of that phone call."
