Dancing With the Stars may have fired longtime co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet and replaced her with Erin Andrews in order to attract young males to the show, according to new reports.

Dancing With the Stars Season 18: Maks is Back!

Brooke-Charvet was fired from her co-hosting gig on Dancing With the Stars in mid-February, a decision that shocked the 42-year-old former model. While it could have been suggested that fellow co-host Tom Bergeron could take over as the sole host of Dancing With the Stars, producers followed up their decision by announcing Andrews as the new co-host.

Things have been relatively quiet on the reasoning behind the firing and replacement, one insider close to the show (via Us Weekly) may have revealed the true reasons.

"Everyone loved [Brooke], but the execs wanted a whole new show," the source revealed, saying that Andrews has a "young male following" that the network wanted to attract. "They're desperate for those viewers."

Andrews competed on season 10 of Dancing With the Stars, coming in third place with her pro dancing partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The 35-year-old Fox Sports reporter's new co-host hiring is just one of Dancing With the Stars' changes ahead of season 18.

Additionally, DWTS producers fired longtime bandleader Harold Wheeler and his band ahead of season 18, replacing them with Ray Chew and a smaller band.

The cast announcement for Dancing With the Stars season 18 will take place Tuesday, March 4 on ABC's Good Morning America.

Dancing With the Stars season 18 premieres Monday, March 17 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
