The next season of Downton Abbey is likely to delve deeper into Lady Mary's character, as she might reveal something juicy to Anna.
In an interview with Manhattan magazine on Feb. 27, Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary, revealed that her character might have some secrets up her sleeve, and she might reveal them to her maid.
"I love that Lady Mary is so complex," Dockery said. "She is very modern in that sense because she is more than a strong woman. Lady Mary is witty and even vicious. She does not suffer fools but she is sensitive. She is a mixed bag and I enjoy playing those sides of her. I love [that] she does not apologize for who she is or what she has done. Lady Mary might confess a doubt to Anna [her trusted lady maid] in private, but in public? Never."
Dockery also revealed that playing this vicious character helps her step out of her comfort zone.
"When I'm slightly scared by a read, I know the character is for me," Dockery said. "I'm not that person, I thought. Then I realized that fear was actually good, that it whet my appetite."
According to the interview, Dockery had finished up a costume fitting for the next season of Downton Abbey where she revealed how much she's looking forward to coming back.
"I'm looking forward to coming back to the castle," Dockery said.
Downton Abbey Season 5 is expected to premiere in January 2015 on PBS.
