The girlfriend of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger was found dead in her Manhattan apartment March 17, allegedly after committing suicide.

The model and designer was found hanging by a scarf inside an eighth floor luxury apartment at 200 Eleventh Avenue around 10 a.m. The New York Post reported.

It is unclear if she left a note, or why she took her life.

A spokesman for Jagger has said that the singer was 'completely shocked and devastated' following the news of her sudden death.

The news of the discovery is even more shocking as her official Twitter account was updated shortly before 11 a.m. this morning, less than an hour after her body was discovered.

She began her career as a Hollywood stylist in the 1990s, and has designed costumes for films including Diabolique, Ocean's Thirteen, Eyes Wide Shut and Shine a Light, a Martin Scorsese documentary about Jagger and The Rolling Stones.

She and Jagger were first linked together as a couple in 2001, and her first fashion collection launched in 2006. Her designs have been worn by several big names in Hollywood, including Penelope Cruz, Amy Adams, Nicole Kidman, Kyra Sedgwick, Christina Hendricks and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Despite success, her fashion line has struggled recently, and she was forced to cancel her London Fashion Week show in February after production delays.

She also recently collaborated with Banana Republic to create a more affordable collection of clothes, shoes and accessories.
