Law and Order SVU fans can now rejoice as NBC announced that the show has been renewed for another season on May 7.

This news must come as a big relief for loyal followers of the show because Law and Order SVU, which is nearing the finale of its fifteenth season, was in the danger zone and its fate seemed dicey.

As NBC was considering the renewal of the detective series a Deadline report suggested that financial troubles might discourage the network from running with another season of the show. It was also being suggested that the budget negotiations between Dick Wolf, the writer of the show and the books it is based on, and NBC didn't go down to well.

To add to that, it seemed like some of the cast members have also tired of the show. Christopher Meloni, who plays Detective Elliot Stabler on the show revealed that he felt saturated about playing his character on the show, at the 2014 TV Critics press tour.

"From where I sit right now, I spent 12 years there. It was a great experience. I loved all the people, I loved the character, I just feel at this point and time it's kind of been done, for me," he told E!News

Here's the official synopsis for the finale of season 15:

"Amaro's (Danny Pino) recklessness once again makes him the target of Internal Affairs, and he has no choice but to face the consequences. With his porfessional and personal life at risk, he looks to his friend John Munch (Belzer) for advice. Meanwhile, an online ad for escorts leads to the rape and robbery of several male tourists, and one of the suspects has a surprising connection to Sergeant Benson (Mariska Hargitay) that may chane her life forever."

The finale will air on Wednesday, May 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
