Meryl Davis and her partner Maks Chmerkovskiy have become the latest champions of Dancing With the Stars, winning the Mirrorball Trophy for Season 18.

Dancing With the Stars Winner Poll

Davis, an Olympic ice dancer, was a frontrunner all season, scoring perfectly from the judges on six different dances, tying the record set by Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough in Season 11. Davis and Chmerkovskiy were one of the closest pairs in the competition and took that chemistry to victory Tuesday night, where they beat out Amy Purdy and Hough as well as Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas.

This was a significant win for both Davis and Chmerkovskiy. While winning the Mirrorball Trophy is a big deal in and of itself for Davis, it is Chmerkovskiy that is perhaps more pleased to have won. The dancer has competed on 13 seasons of Dancing With the Stars but has never actually won the competition with any of his celebrity partners, coming close on several occasions.

However, he finally pulled it off with Davis in Season 18, in which they became the highest-scoring couple in Dancing With the Stars history with an average score of 28.4 out of 30.
