There was no new episode of Game of Thrones Sunday, but that's not stopping loyal fans of the show from speculating about the fate of their favorite characters.
The eighth episode of season 4, titled The Mountain and the Viper, will include a massive fight between the Red Viper and the Mountain. The clash will decide whether Tyrion Lannister will live or if he has to accept the verdict of death for murdering the young sadist king Joffrey.
Meanwhile, Cersei seems to have her own motives behind appointing Gregor Clegane as her champion to fight against Tyrion, who himself has asked his brother Jaime and Bronn for assistance. The two refused it, although Red Viper/Prince Oberyn accepted his request and offered his help to fight Tyrion's champion. As fans of the show will know, Oberyn has his own agenda against The Mountain, as he raped and killed his sister and his children years ago.
According to showrunner D.B. Weiss, the upcoming battle is one of the most interesting combat scenes of the series so far.
"It's one of the best - if not the best - combat scenes we've done so far," Weiss says. "It's not just people hacking at each other with spears and swords. It's the culmination of 20 years of anger and hatred and third for vengeance coming to a head in this amazing set piece that [stunt coordinator Paul Herbert and swordmaster C.C. Smiff] have put together. The fight delivers beyond our expectations."
Game of Thrones is set to air after it's Memorial Day hiatus next Sunday, June 1 at 9:00 p.m. on HBO.
