Doctor Who's most underused regeneration is more than willing to step back in front of the camera to give Eight a little more screen time.

Paul McGann portrayed the eighth Doctor in the series' eponymous 1996 TV movie, but that was the end of the line for his short-lived regeneration. Or at least it was until McGann surprised viewers by appearing in "The Night of The Doctor," the prelude to last November's 50th Anniversary special (see video below).

Now that McGann has stepped back in TARDIS, the actor is loath to leave his Time Lord persona behind.

"The thing is, I'm warmed up now. I could do it now. When we got to shoot The Night of the Doctor I was so glad for the audience. I got to keep my hand in, so to speak, because I felt like I knew what I was doing," McGann said at Comicpalooza, according to Doctor Who TV. "The second I put the kit on I felt like the Doctor."

In order to bring Eight back, McGann placed his signature on a fan-made petition for a Eight-centric spin-off.

"I signed it! But keep it under your fez," McGann joked, later emphasizing just how eager he is to pick up the sonic screwdriver once more. "Of course I would do it! Should anything like that ever happen again I can only assume it would happen like it did last year - there'd be a call saying 'could you start on Monday?'"
