New Jersey residents accustomed to watching the Macy's fireworks display over the Hudson River every fourth of July are in for a disappointment. After five years on the Hudson the show is moving back to the East River, which means New Jersey residents will no longer get to watch along the west bank.

New York mayor Bill de Blasio suggested Macy's move the show after an overwhelming response from New Yorkers to make the fireworks display more accessible to the outer boroughs.

For New Jersey residents fearing themselves without a 4th of July fireworks show, or tempted to illegally get some Pennsylvania fireworks for their own backyard parties, Jersey City mayor Steven Fulop assured the public not to lose heart.

Mayor Fulop announced last month that he intends to offer a show in Liberty State Park, funding the endeavor through corporate sponsorship.

"We're not in the business of competing with New York City directly," said Mayor Fulop in The New York Times, but "the window of opportunity opened." He even added that the show might make it onto television.

For those not willing to make the trek for the Liberty State Park fireworks, NJ.com recently listed a few more low-key options across the state. 4th of July fireworks shows can be found at Dover Elementary School in Dover, NJ and Main Memorial Park in Clifton, NJ.

Union City will have a street fair and carnival on Palisade Avenue, while Kearny's Veterans Park will have a community festival.

Bloomfield, Secaucus, Bayonne, and the Meadowlands will also have their own celebrations.
