Conan O'Brien has only really ever been himself on television.

Zach Galifianakis Talks Quitting Drinking On Conan

Aside from appearing on his buddy Andy Richter's short-lived FOX sitcom Andy Richter Control the Universe and an old episode of The Single Guy, Conan has basically just been Conan, the talk show host. However, as The Wrap reported on Monday, purely for the gag of it O'Brien has been promoting his work in the upcoming film Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda with a couple of billboards.

Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda is the sequel to 2010's Sharktopus, both of whom were produced by Roger Corman to air on SyFy. While the Sharknado phenomenon may have drowned it out, there is still something to be said for a giant shark-octopus hybrid causing havoc. O'Brien has purchased two billboards, one in Los Angeles and one in New York City, to promote himself for consideration for an Emmy, an Oscar, or even a BAFTA.

Conan O'Brien To Host 2014 MTV Movie Awards

Obviously, it's a joke, but it has provided O'Brien with material for his late night show on TBS, and provided promotion for the film, which will air August 2 on SyFy. While fans of Conan will likely tune in, he has warned that his role isn't very large. Although, it will almost assuredly end with him being eaten by either the sharktopus or the pteracuda, which, one can only assume, is a combination of a pterodactyl and a barracuda. The film stars Robert Carradine and Kate Savoy, among others. SyFy has really turned to promoting their schlock movies in hopes people will tune in to make fun of them. O'Brien's billboards fit right into that marketing strategy.
