While much of Marvel's attention has been on the recent hit Guardians of the Galaxy, there is another cosmic superhero that will need some attention soon.

'Thor 3' Star Says Movie Is Still Planned, But A Ways Away

With Thor next appearing in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the prospect of his next standalone movie is the next step for the God of Thunder. Recently at Comic-Con, star Chris Hemsworth said that the next standalone Thor movie was "a ways away," but could that be closer than what Hemsworth thinks?

In January, Variety reported that Marvel veteran Craig Kyle would start work on the Thor 3 script with the help of Christopher Yost, who polished Thor: The Dark World. This has given them nearly eight months to work on the script for the next Thor movie.

'Thor 3' Rumors: Could Tony Stark Play A Part In The Franchise's Third Installment?

With Marvel having dates set for movies up to the year 2019, and more recently adding another date in 2017, could a Thor movie be coming sooner? It could be. Right now, Captain America 3 is set for May 2016 with Doctor Strange possibly following it. After that, Marvel has two open dates before Guardians of the Galaxy 2 hits in June 2017.

Right now, with the writers already at work on the script, it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to think Thor hits theaters in the first slot of 2017. The first two movies have done well at the box office and with it opening in the first 2017 slot, it follows the rule that Marvel will be mixing both original content and already used titles.

With the popularity of Hemsworth and Thor, it makes a lot of sense for Marvel to push out the next movie as soon as they can and it looks like they have already have started to work on that.
