In an interview dated August 6, Carrie Preston, who plays the quirky lawyer Elsbeth Tacioni on The Good Wife, spoke about working on the show and in which direction it might be headed with season 6.

Spin-Off Of The Good Wife In The Works

Speaking to Pop Sugar, Preston, who will be returning in the next chapter for 2 episodes, particularly addressed Will (Josh Charles) leaving the show and how that would affect its future, particularly with regards to Alicia (Julianna Margulies).

"So this is a great obstacle for [Alicia], and it's only going to make her character grow more. I think it was a blessing in disguise," she said. "We all know higher stakes when watching the show, because we know emotionally what she's going through and what she's having to accept. And now it's just going to make for stronger storylines. More interesting things for Julianna [Margulies] to play."

But rewinding to the time, Preston did express a degree of shock and dismay when she found out that Charles was leaving for good.

"We all felt like we lost someone. Somebody died," she said. "His character was so beloved and it was so brilliantly played and written."

But the actor is psyched about perhaps crossing paths with Charles again, as he is set to return in the role of director in season 6 for a few episodes.

"He is a really good director, from what I hear," she said. "I haven't got to work with him, but I know he's passionate about it, and that's part of the reason he wanted to move on, so he could do it."

The finale for season 5, titled A Weird Year, aired on May 18.
